    The ETC - Training Centre

    Who is Eastcape Training Centre?

Eastcape Training Centre (ETC) is an acknowledged leader in the field of Skills Development and as a successful private training institution it provides an essential service to employers in commerce, industry and government as well as to local communities.

ETC is a Section 21 Company which does not operate for gain thereby enabling all surpluses to be used for the improvement, expansion and enlargement of its services. It is governed by a Board consisting of leaders in commerce, industry, local government and the community.

    Facilities and Services

The Centre offers the most sophisticated training facilities, modern lecture rooms, computer training laboratories, workshops and various simulating media, including a computerised Truck Driver Simulator, skidpan and Trainability Assessment System.

The wide range of training courses are continually added to or adapted in order to meet employer, individual, community or project needs. The range includes courses in administration, building and civil, computer, catering, driving and operator, security, various artisan fields and most technical skills. Other services include a TRAINABILITY ASSESSMENT Service, TRAINING PACKAGE SALES, SELECTION AND PLACEMENT Services and the well known purpose-designed ETC CONFERENCE CENTRE.

    Relationship with Commerce and Industry

ETC's phenomenal growth can be attributed to its primary aim of meeting the region's human resource development needs. The Centre maintains close relationships with employer bodies and individual employers and is always willing to be flexible and adaptable to meet individual needs. Training courses are presented at ETC's facilities in Port Elizabeth and East London or at venues/training sites wherever suitable facilities exist or can be arranged.

    Involvement with Communities

ETC's strong involvement with Community Based Organisations means that community related projects and needs can be met very effectively. This includes Public Works programmes and other job creation projects. Many successful projects bear testimony to ETC's effective and relevant approach in the construction of houses, community buildings, roads, etc., with previously unemployed and unskilled people. Accredited courses also enable the trained people to be on a learning pathway in terms of a chosen career.

    Community Education and Training (COMET)

COMET is a selection of courses which are offered to individuals at affordable rates. It differs from other courses in that they are offered mainly after hours in a modular format to suit individual needs. Members of the community therefore have easy access to CAREER ENHANCEMENT, CAREER DEVELOPMENT and SELF ENRICHMENT courses. Among the popular courses are Basic Electronic Core Competencies, Radio and Television

Repair, Flower Arranging, DIY Bricklaying and many more. All the electronic courses are also available through long-distance education.

    Partnership with other Organisations/Institutions

Where appropriate, ETC chooses to operate in association or in partnership with other organisations or institutions. This can range from a short term specific arrangement on a particular course to a long term agreement with a relevant role-player. Two of the better-known examples are the co-operation agreement with the Port Elizabeth Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PERCCI) and the association with certain faculties of the Port Elizabeth Technikon.

    Quality Assurance

Courses offered for a particular industry or sector are accredited by the relevant accreditation body. This also ensures the procedures of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) are adhered to and that trainees and employers can be assured of quality outcomes. Training facilitators/instructors are chosen not only for their high degree of expertise but also for their commitment to training and good rapport with learners.

Flexibility and Meeting the Needs of Clients

Although the Centre has an exceptionally wide range of courses, its strength and phenomenal success lies in the fact that it always endeavours to meet the-needs of clients. Clients are encouraged to discuss their specific needs with a representative of the Centre or where required ETC will assist with training needs analysis. The Centre sees itself as a market responsive, demand-driven institution.
