Building & Construction

Currently the thrust in South Africa is on Learnerships to help overcome the chronic shortage of skills in South Africa. These courses are approximately a year in duration for each level, where the learner completes an initial three to four months at ETC, before going to a host employer to practically apply what has been learnt. At the end of the year period the learner returns to ETC for assessment and evaluation by an independent moderator. If judged competent, then the learner can progress to the next higher level.

Generally Learnerships at the lower level average around twenty to twenty four individual registered unit standards. Any one, or any combination or group of specific unit standards, can be offered to individuals or industry, to suit particular requirements. In addition the previous common qualification, that of modular training for individual specific courses, can still be offered. Likewise specific courses too can be tailored to meet special needs, drawing from the vast range of training material that ETC has readily on file.

As stated the Building and Construction Training Department tackle training that falls under the Civil Engineering banner. From basis bricklaying, including the correct mixing of the dagga, to fitting doors, locks building cabinets, and even coffins, to painting, decorating and water proofing, as well as all the necessary foundation work for brick or concrete structures, it all falls within our fields of expertise.

The Building and Construction Training Department trains mainly under the CETA (Construction Engineering Training Authority) but is also accredited with other SETAs.
